2018+ BMW G2x wheel fitment guide
When you start looking at aftermarket wheels you might see people talking about ‘Supra fitment’. And it’s true, the fitment on 3/4-Series is pretty close to the Supra. While these cars share the same engine, the G2x is a lot larger and has its own personality. We’re going to look at wheels and specs that match the energy of this platform.
- This guide is for the newest models of BMW 3-Series & 4-Series, all trim levels & body styles (G20, G21, G22, & G23)
While this guide applies to the ‘baby M’, aka the M340i/M440i, unfortunately it doesn’t apply to the significantly wider M3 & M4.

Basic fitment info
- Bolt pattern: 5x112
- Bolt thread: m14x1.25
- Center bore: 66.1 mm
- Bolt torque: 103 ft/lbs
If you’re used to older Bimmers, the lug pattern was 5x120, however, these days they’ve switched it to 5x112. Otherwise, there’s nothing that stands out about the fitment.
If you own an XDrive model…
If you have an AWD model, you need to pay extra close attention to tire sizes. If you’re going to run a staggered wheel setup, that’s fine, just know that the rolling diameter (overall diameter of tires) needs to be similar front to rear. On this particular platform, < 1% difference front to rear is recommended.
So, how does this translate to actual tire sizes? If you want factory sizes, 225/45 front and 255/40 will work as they’re dead-on even. But who wants aftermarket wheels with weak tires? Here are a few sizes that are within the 1% spec:
- F: 245/45R18 // R:275/40R18
- F: 245/40R19 // R:275/35R19
- F: 255/40R19 // R:285/35R19
- F: 255/35R19 // R:295/30R19
- F: 235/35R20 // R:275/30R20
- F: 245/35R20 // R:285/30R20
Need to brush up on tire specs?
Of course, tire sizing will depend on how your wheels are spec’d.
Aftermarket wheel specs overview
The big decision that needs to be made is wheel diameter. 18 or 19” wheels come standard. 20” wheels are also very possible. Between the three, 19’s and 20’s are by far the most popular, smaller sizes are normally reserved for winter tires.
So what about width and offset? Like most BMWs, these take well to staggered wheels. Assuming that's what you want to run, the normal size of the front would be 8-9”, and 9-10” in the rear. Front offset will be around 20-35 while the rear is always higher at around 35-45. A good rule of thumb is to add 15-20 to your front offset and the rear will match nicely.

No spacers. No other mods needed. Stock suspension |
If you’re looking for clean OEM+ fitment, this might be your setup. Factory wheels on the M340I will be 18x7.5 front // 18x8.5 rear. This set of Avant Garde wheels measure 1/2” wider front and rear, but otherwise are pretty close to factory 19” wheels. The result will be a factory look, but with the ability to run wider tires.
On the subject of tires, this car has 245/35 front and 275/30 in the rear. This makes the rear tires smaller than the front, enough so that this won’t work on an XDrive; to make it work, a 235/35 front would bring it dead-even with the rear (literally 0% different front to rear).

Eibach pro-kit springs |
This G21 is running a staggered set of Volk wheels. The tire size is well within spec for an AWD car. This time around we see a 9” wide front and 10” wide rear. When you start to go wider in the front, say a 9.5J wheel, you might run into problems with suspension clearance. A setup like this is the widest we’d recommend if you don’t want to roll your fender or adjust the alignment - just set and forget.
You’ll notice one is a bit lower than the last, that’s because it’s on a set of Eibach Pro lowering springs. They give a nice drop, and yet this car doesn’t have any rubbing issues.

Square setup. Stock suspension |
Now for a square setup. This Gran Coupe is running Apex wheels sized at 19x9 +25 all around. Interestingly, this car is running a staggered set of tires. One of the big advantages of a square setup is the ability to rotate your tires, getting more life out of them. A square setup is geared towards track-oriented builds. If you go this route, get the same tires on all four corners - we’d recommend a 245/40R19 or 255/35R19 with these wheels.
And we have to add: this generation of 4-Series Gran Coupe is a huge step up in the looks department compared with the previous generation.

Stock height No rubbing, but wheels barely clear M calipers |
Now, for our last set of 19’s, here’s something a bit more aggressive. This G20 M340i is on a set of TE37s. This is a staggered setup with 9.5” fronts - about as wide as you can fit on these cars.
One thing to note is that the M-performance brakes come very close to the wheels - and TE37s are even known to have good brake clearance. Keep this in mind if you have an M-package.

Eibach Pro lowering springs 10mm front spacers |
Sooner or later we were going to see some BBS wheels. Here is what a set of 20” CI-R looks like a g2x (in this case a wagon). These are definitely not the cheapest, starting at over $800/piece for 20’s. Just know that you could also take these specs and apply them to more budget friendly options. Rohana and AVD.1 are two brands you might wanna check out.
How do 20’s look on this platform? Quite good, as we can see. This car is on Eibach lowering springs, and compared with 19’s the wheels really fill out those fenders. Otherwise, the fitment is similar to what we already showed with 19’s. 10mm spacers were needed to clear the M-Performance brakes.
This is another tire combination that will work with XDrive vehicles.

This is our pick for the best bang-4-buck setup. These wheels are flow formed. A full set of 20’s can be had for under $1700, or even less for smaller sizes. These are paired with Toyo Proxes Sport A/S tires. They’re not the cheapest, but they’re not bad for a quality tire in these sizes.
Again, 9” front and 10” rear wheels seem to be one of the best combos for this platform. The tire sizes you see here will work on XDrive vehicles. A 285 is the widest tire we’ve shown. There is no rubbing at stock height, but this could change if the car was on springs. A 295 will almost always require fender work.

Silvers coilovers Fenders rolled Slight rubbing in the front at full lock |
If springs don’t go low enough for you, look into a set of coilovers. This G22 is on a set of Silvers coilovers. This was one of the first brands to launch a coilover for the G2x (besides race-oriented brands like KW). These days, you can choose between BC, Fortune Auto, or whatever brand floats your boat.
*make sure you get the correct coils for your RWD or AWD car.
The specs on these wheels are nothing that we haven’t seen before, but because this car is lower than the others, the fenders needed to be rolled slightly. Rolling fenders is probably a good idea if you plan to lower your car, regardless of whether it’s springs or coils - especially if you plan to run some thick tires like these.

For XDrive owners looking for some winter wheels, these fit the bill. This square set of Forgestar F14C wheels is relatively cheap and comes in 18x8.5 +38. With a high offset, the fitment isn’t aggressive, but that’s not the point. These will let you run a wider tire than the stock 18x7.5. This car is running 245/45R18. The brand? Never heard of em’, but feel free to throw on your favorite winter tire and call it a day.
Wrap up
BMW makes it complicated with a bunch of different chassis codes. But there’s no reason to overthink the fitment. It’s all exactly the same across the G-family, so if you see a wagon or Gran Coupe with fitment you like, it will look just as good on your sedan or convertible.
When you get the perfect fitment for your 3/4 -series, be sure to share it in our fitment gallery - a great place to show off your ride and help fellow BMW enthusiasts.
